Laganas Beach stretches an impressive 9 kilometers along the southern coast of Zakynthos and is one of the most spectacular beaches in the Ionian.

Its shallow, warm waters make it perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and long seaside walks. Because it’s a protected nesting area for Caretta-Caretta turtles, parts of the beach are monitored and some zones have limited access during the nesting season (May–August).
Visitors will find sunbeds, beach bars, water sports, and plenty of space to relax.

The beach is so long that you’ll never feel crowded, even during peak season. The main section near the resort center offers all the amenities you’d expect: sunbeds and umbrellas for hire, water sports like jet skis and parasailing, and beachfront bars that serve refreshing drinks and light meals throughout the day. Lifeguards patrol the busier stretches, giving parents with young children peace of mind.

Most popular beach on Zakynthos island

Walk just a few minutes in either direction, however, and the beach takes on a quieter character.

The eastern end, closer to Kalamaki, becomes notably more peaceful and is part of the protected National Marine Park of Zakynthos, where sea turtles (Caretta caretta) nest. Here, the beach becomes gentler, with fewer sunbeds and a more natural, unspoiled feel. Guests are requested to respect the turtles’ nesting grounds so they can reproduce in peace.

The turquoise, sparkling sea is ideal for swimmers of all abilities. As evening approaches, the beach puts on the colors of the setting sun, with the sky turning majestic shades of orange and pink. It’s mesmerizing to watch the sun set and then head for a nice dinner and some fun.
